Gate Valve Components

Gate valves consist of six components. These components are explained in detail below:

• Body: This is the body of the valve and the chamber through which the fluid flows.
• Driver: This is the component that changes the direction of the fluid via the slide.
• Slide: This is the component that starts or stops the fluid flow.
• Sealing Elements: These provide a seal where the slide and the driver meet the body.
• Seatings: These ensure smooth movement of the slide.
• Protective Covers: They protect the internal parts of the valve from external factors (dirt, water, chemicals, etc.).

How Does a Gate Valve Work?

The operating principle of a gate valve is based on controlling flow by moving the slide mechanism within the valve body.

The lever or rod on the valve moves the slide up and down, or left and right. This movement can either completely close the flow path of the fluid in the pipeline (closed position) or completely open it, allowing free flow (open position).
