What is an Air Valve (Suction Cup)? What is its purpose?

March 1, 2024 in Typhoon

Liquid conveying systems always contain some air. This causes air or gas pockets to form in the pipes, and these pockets are quite difficult to detect. This negatively affects the fluid’s efficiency. Therefore, air must be removed from the system to ensure the fluid in the pipeline reaches the desired flow rate and pressure.

For this purpose, a water pipe air vent valve, also known as an air valve, is used. So, what is an air vent valve? Here are the details:

What is an Air Relief Valve?

Air valves are valves, also known as “air vent valves,” that maintain the air-water balance in the system. They quickly release air while the pipeline is being filled, removing air pockets that form during operation. By preventing the formation of a vacuum during discharge, they balance the pressure and prevent cavitation.

Air Valve – What Does an Air vent Valve Do?
An air vent valve, also known as an air vent valve, not only prevents the formation of air and gas pockets in the system but also prevents vacuum. This reduces the risk of bursting, collapsing, and ruptures in pipelines. It also reduces energy consumption and operating costs, extends system life, and minimizes the risk of corrosion and contamination.

Vacuum Valve Types

There are two types of air valves used in pipelines. These valves are made of plastic and are categorized as kinetic (single-acting) and automatic (double-acting).

Automatic air valves continuously release small amounts of air from pressurized lines and are also known as “compressed air valves.” Kinetic air valves, on the other hand, release large volumes of air when filling the pipeline and admit large volumes of air when emptying.

Air Release Valve Uses

Air valves are critical in various agricultural irrigation and industrial applications. Here are the common places where air valves are used:

  • At pump outlets
  • Every 400-500 meters on straight lines on main lines
  • Every 400-500 meters at the beginning of slopes and on upward slopes
  • At the beginning and end of deflections
  • At the ends of lines and before irrigation valves
  • In filtration systems (Disc filters, hydrocyclones, gravel tanks, automatic horizontal filters, etc.)
  • In industrial installations
  • In water treatment systems

Vacuum Valve Prices

Air vent valve prices, also known as air vent valves, vary depending on the type of kinetic or automatic valve and the materials used in their production. The installation system used is also a factor affecting the cost.
